“We really need to lie you down somewhere,” Anya told Giles softly, as he leaned on her for support, “The hospital maybe?”
“And say what? An evil witch drained me of all my energy? They couldn’t help Anya.”
“Fine then. You are coming home with me,” She said quickly.
“Anya…I think I can handle myself,” He said, arguing.
“Really? Do you?” She said, moving away from him, and taking away his support. He immediately began to topple over.
She rushed back to his side, “Now, are you going to argue? Or are you coming with me?” She asked.
“I suppose it couldn’t hurt to lie down on your couch for a moment.”
#####
Anya was pulling blankets from a hall closet. Giles had collapsed on the couch as soon as they had gotten to her apartment.
“When do you plan on going back to England?” Anya asked him, appearing back in the living room.
“As soon as I can I suppose.” He said.
“Oh,” Her face fell a bit, “Well, I suppose that’s a good idea. I mean, we wouldn’t want anyone to depend on you or anything,” She said a little too harshly.
“Anya. What was that supposed to mean?” He asked.
“Nothing…Its just. I meant what I said when we were in the magic shop…There is so much that I want to say to you…That I have wanted to say for a long time…But if you are just going to leave again…Well, there’s really no point,” She told him.
“Anya, I have to go…There really is no place for me here. I realize that now.”
“But there is,” She said, moving closer to the couch, “There is a place for you Rupert.”
“And where is that?” He asked, softly, looking into her eyes.
“Rupert…I need to tell you this. And I know that sometimes when people share their feelings, the person they share them with doesn’t, well, share them…But I have to tell you anyway. Tonight when I thought you were going to die, I got this knot in my stomach. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. No one has ever made me feel that way. Not even Xander. I didn’t want you to die Rupert. And now, I don’t want you to leave.”
“What are you trying say Anya?” He thought he understood, but sometimes, Anya was very hard to understand.
“Rupert, I want you to stay. Here. With me.” She said, hopefully, “I get all these butterflies around you. I feel better around you. I think that I am love with you. And its okay if you don’t fell the same way, but-”
“Anya, how could I not feel the same way? The day I left, you were the one thing I didn’t want to leave behind…But you had Xander. That’s why I couldn’t come to your wedding,” He told her.
“Then…Why can’t you stay?” She asked.
“Well, I suppose I can. I thought there was no place for me here, but if there is…I can be convinced that I should stay…” He said, placing a hand on her cheek.
“And how would I do that?” She said, smiling slightly.
“Perhaps like this,” he pulled her face down to his, for a kiss on the lips. It was tender and soft. He pulled back, “No there’s one more thing we need to talk about,” He added.
“What’s that?” She asked.
“The vengeance demon thing…” He said, laughing.
“Oh…That…Well, I, uh…I…” She searched for an answer…
“Its okay…I’ll just have to find some way to love you anyway…” He teased, pulling her in for another kiss.
End.
